Who Will Give You Your "Mat Talk" During Labor?

Ok, we admit it.. We binge-watched the entire season of Netflix’s “Cheer” and we aren’t mad about it. Honestly, seeing all the team members of the Navarro College cheerleading squad giving each other constant encouragement has given us a new pep in our step.

If you’ve watched the series you know the cheer squad refers to the in-your-face encouragement as mat talk. All of the members of Navarro approach their mat talk a little differently.

Monica is the fearless cheer coach of Navarro. She brings a little bit of maternal love along with a side of tough love to each of her squad members.

La’Darius is the quiet, strong, and sorta angry member of the squad. Who can blame him? He’s had a tough life. He approached mat talk a little differently. He may not say much on the mat itself but you know he’s there to catch you after a basket toss. You can’t beat that level of dependability.

Morgan is one of the sweetest members of the NC team. She’ll be there with a smile and make sure you’re taking care of yourself.

One of our very favorite characters is Jerry. Jerry works HARD at serving out high-energy mat talk at every single practice to every.single.person. He will be right there telling you that YOU. CAN. DO. THIS. PERIODT.

This got us thinking…people in labor really could use a good mat talk. Maybe you need a doula who is like Monica, one like La’Darius, one like Morgan, or one like Jerry. The things is, most laboring people really need different things all throughout their labor. It’s important to find a doula who can attune to what you need and meet you where you are. Our Doulas of Raleigh doulas do this for every single client at every single birth.

If you happen to watch the Oscars, be sure to look for Jerry. He’ll be out there as a correspondent…no doubt giving a mat talk to each person he talks to on the red carpet. GO BULLDOGS!
