Natural Cold Remedies For Pregnancy

Flu..Cold…Strep…Covid…uggghhh it’s that time of year. Being pregnant and sick is no fun. Your mucous membranes are already in hyperdrive and a cold will just exacerbate the situation.

One of the most common questions we get from people during cold and flu season is….Is there anything I can take to help treat symptoms? And we always say, “ask your care provider”..because we aren’t doctors. Your care provider may be able to suggest some safe over the counter options for you, or, when approporiate, prescribe antibiotics.

The good news here is that there are lots of natural cold remedies to try to help treat symptoms. Here are a few things to try if you are super congested….

Turn your shower on to the hottest water temp and close the door to the bathroom. Let the steam build up in the bathroom. Stand in the bathroom for a few minutes. The steam should help open up your lungs and your nasal passages.

Use saline spray to keep your nasal passages moist.

Take a warm bath with a cup of Epsom salts.

Stay hydrated! Drink lots of water and warm decaffeinated teas. Warm drinks are also soothing to the throat and just help you feel comfy and cozy.

Drink warm chicken or beef bone broth. Chop up a fresh garlic clove and mix it into the broth for an added boost to your immune system.

If your throat is sore, along with drinking warm beverages, you can try gargling with warm water and baking soda. Of course, a popsicle is also never wrong!

If you are feeling bad, give yourself permission to take it easy. Naps throughout the day can help you heal. Warm cozy blankets are a must!

Rope your partner into action. They can bring you fluids, make you soup, encourage rest, and snuggle up on the couch for a Netflix marathon. You may even score a head or foot massage!

Put all the above suggestions into play and you should be feeling better in no time!
