Family Friendly Fall Activities in the Triangle
It’s almost here you guys! I mean, technically, the first day of Fall was just a few days ago but if you’ve been in North Carolina for any amount of time, you know that means nothing. So while it’s still almost 90 degrees outside, we thought it time to mentally prepare for cooler weather, all things pumpkin, changing leaves, and the joy that is Fall. If we wish hard enough - and plan some fun, family friendly Fall activities - maybe we can will sweater weather into existence. A girl can dream, right?!
Fun Fall Things to do Around the Triangle:
Ken’s Korny Corn Maze
Check out one of the oldest and largest corn mazes in the Triangle at Ken’s Produce in Garner. This time of year it transforms into Ken’s Korny Corn Maze and hosts not just the maze but other fun fall events. There are hay rides, a shuffle board court, and a host of farm animals if you’re still looking for fun after making your way through the maze.
Phillips Farms of Cary
If you’ve never been to Phillips Farms in Cary it is a must do, especially this time of year. Once Fall rolls around, the Farm turns into a pumpkin wonderland, with its own family fun park. Admission includes access to the corn maze, cow train, slides and bounce pillows, wagon rides, and of course a pumpkin patch.
Clayton Harvest Festival
Are you looking for a whole weekend of family fun? Look no further than the Clayton Harvest Festival! This Johnston County tradition includes midway Carnival rides, a car show, and a Family Night that includes a Trunk or Treat event and an outdoor movie. The event takes place this year from October 23rd-26th.
Bond Park Pumpkin Flotilla
The Pumpkin Flotilla at Cary’s Bond Park is an annual tradition that you don’t want to miss. Each year, people bring their carved pumpkins to the park the day before and then the following day gather to watch the lighted Jack-O-Lanterns set sail across Bond Lake. It’s a beautiful sight to behold. Plus there is also entertainment and live music to keep the whole family happy. This year pumpkin drop off is scheduled for Thursday October 23rd and the Flotilla will happen on Friday October 24th.
Millstone Creek Orchards
Okay, technically this last one isn’t in the Triangle, but at just about an hour away, Ramseur is the closest we can get to apple picking around here. Millstone Creek Orchards is the destination if you’re looking for a pick-your-own apple orchard. It also has a pumpkin patch, apple cider donuts, and a convenient lunch spot right on the grounds, the Cider House. You can make a whole day of it and then enjoy the fruits of your labor (get it??) for days afterwards.
This is one of my favorite times of the year and I hope you make some new memories and family traditions with all of the fun stuff happening around the Triangle!
